Winner of two Academy Awards and a third nomination, Robin Lehman has become one of the most acclaimed documentary filmmakers in the world. He won the 1975 Academy Award for Don't, the saga of a Monarch butterfly. The 1976 Academy Award was presented to him for The End of the Game, a stunning film on African wildlife, and in 1977 Nightlife, filmed in the Irish Sea, was awarded an Academy nomination.
In addition to the Academy Awards, Mr. Lehman's films have drawn international recognition by winning over 100 awards form such diverse film festivals as Atlanta, Barcelona, Berlin, Chicago, Cork, Crakow, Moscow, San Francisco, and Cannes. He also received the highly coveted Grand Prix de la Commission Superieure Technique du Cinema Francais.
Despite all this success, Lehman did not start out as a filmmaker. He studied painting form the age of six until he was about twenty, then his interests shifted from his eyes to his ears, and he spent the next ten years in Paris studying musical composition with Nadia Boulanger.
Lehman's previous training can readily be seen in all his films: precise visuals with abstract soundtracks edited to create an intellectual but often humorous cinematic experience.
