Punmaram has been living with camels since he was ten. Today, he heads the largest herd in India: two hundred and fifty females and their children. He has helped each of them into life, and they trust him implicitly. Like his ancestors, Punmaram has a mission: to guide generations of camels. His tribe was put on earth for that the day the first camel was born. On the way to the annual breeders’ fair, Punmaram and Raeta, his faithful camel friend, return to the places that figure in the Rebaris’ history. Pilgrimage to the source of the “camel family” as they are called.
This is part of the "Lord of the Animals" series, which presents amazing stories of human and animal coexistence from around the world. Discover the warm and trusting relationships and the ancient traditions, passed down through generations, that have permanently linked humans to animals of nearly every description.
